Small goals, a hard fast surface and a stiff crosswind lent itself to low scoring matches this Sunday in Casper. U10 Green dropped a close match to Sheridan’s U10 Storm 3-2. Last Fall’s league champions were able to take a lot of shots in the first half as they attacked with the wind and down a sloping field, but Keeper Taurey and the stout defense limited Sheridan to just one goal in the first half. The second half saw a couple hard fought Ethan shots (one via penalty kick) find the netting. At the same time, U10 White clanked several shots off of the post enroute to a 2-0 victory against the Cheyenne Sting. Tony placed one penalty kick and Noah fought the keeper for another score. Observed coaches, “Without players winning the ball at midfield. like Nesto, Rachel, Jenna and Tony, it’s hard to start an attack.”
The second game for Green was against the Sting. Reid netted the first goal in the opening 5 minutes on some combination play between he, Chase and Abe. In the second half, with Ethan in the goal Daniel was able to sneak one under a fast and aggressive Cheyenne keeper and Jason cutback on a defender and placed one just under the crossbar to cap the score at 3-0.
Results for the second White game were not available at the time of this article, but will get posted shortly.
”Hustle, dedication and teamwork are what we look for as we build momentum during the season,” commented Strikers coaches. “Both teams showed good determination in these games under less-than-ideal circumstances.”
