The Wyoming ODP 1997 boys team traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico to compete against teams from Texas, New Mexico and Colorado this past weekend.  Coached by Anne Moore (Laramie Soccer Club coach and former coach of UW Women’s Soccer) the ‘97 boys made a strong showing in the gold division, while losing three tight games (3-0, 3-1 and 2-0).

Well, we are 5 games into the Fall, 2009 season.  We have a special group of kids this year.  For periods of time, our play has been at a level I have not seen before in Wyoming for kids this age.   We have a ridiculous differential of 38 goals for and 4 against.  This is a result of fantastic play from front to back.  We have strong goalies,   a defense like a brick wall, a midfield that has the talent to control the whole field of play and forwards that can take care of opportunities to score.

We are 5-0 on the season, winning the Casper Fall Classic.  After this league weekend, we are looking forward to the challenge of the Jackson Fall Classic and the opportunity to play some talented teams.

Go Strikers, Bring the Rain!

094.JPGThe U12 Girls got their first taste of action this weekend, and the results were good.  Playing a Jackson squad the girls played hard and netted 8 goals in their victory.  More importantly was the way the girls meshed with one another.  The hustle was strong and the goals came off the feet of 6 different players.  However, the game was won at the midfield.

In their second game, the girls were defeated by a very strong and well-coached Green River squad 6 - 0.  “It’s always good to see how strong teams play.  We learned more from that game that the first.  I welcome those games as they show provide us a goal to strive for,” said Lander’s Coach.

Team Captains Rachel and Natalie led the team in showing the heart it takes during these games played on hot days.  Alyssa anchored a defence that allowed no goals in the first game, and was aided immensely by the play of Brynne.  Up next:  Casper’s Fall Classic tournament.

Welcome to Fall Strikers.  If you are planning on registering for Fall Lander U-14 Strikers, please let me know.  Email at tlowham@bresnan.net or call me 335-8141.  Make note younger players, 11 v. 11 is an entirely different game.  You need to start the season with a good fitness level and be working on your ball skills daily.  This is not rec soccer, it is STRIKERS.

The head coach has not been determined.

If you are considering ODP, see the WSSA website for tryouts and 2009/2010 schedule.  Also, you need to be practicing your skills daily.  The tournaments that ODP attends include highly select teams, some who have tryouts with hundreds of kids.

If it is Casper you will want to get rooms for the night of  April 18, maybe the 17 if you want to travel to Casper the night before. I will let you know what time our first game is on Sat April 18 as soon as they put the schedule out. We will have four shortened games on April 18, two fifteen minute halves. The time would equal two full length games. On the 19th of April we will have two full games, our first two league games of the season.
